Ep. 3 Explained Like I’m 5: Fridge Condenser Cleaning

Gogurt, cheese strings, my cereal milk… fridges are important because they keep my snacks cold. The fridge has a coolant in it that grabs the warmth from the food and takes it away and gets rid of it. The place it gets rid of the warmth is called a condenser. It can get really hot if it can’t get rid of the warmth, like when you stay under the blanket too long.

The fridge has a fan that blows on the condenser to keep it cool. If there is too much fluff (I call them dust bunnies), the fan can’t help as much. It’s like trying to cool off while under the blanket. Cleaning the condenser is like taking off the blanket so you can cool off. If you don’t, the warmth will not be able to go anywhere and the fridge has nowhere else to put the warmth from the food and my gogurt will go bad!

So the warmth from the food gets taken by the fridge to the condenser and goes away. With a clean condenser it can go away better!
